The major aim of the European Science Infrastructure Services (ESIS-EEIG) is to provide streamlined and efficient services for research based on scientific infrastructures such as biospecimens and related research data. This is done by:

  • Providing services to facilitate use of biobank samples and biomedical data available under the Open Access principle.
  • Assisting holders of biospecimens and data with cost-efficient services for making the resources optimaly useful for research.
  • Our largest customer is the Finnish Maternity Cohort (FMC), one of the world´s largest population-based biobanks containing samples and data from >2 million pregnancies since 1983 and onwards.
  • Providing information and communication technology (ICT) services, for example in relation to linkages of health data registries as well as for collection and handling of biospecimens, informed consents and of related research data.
  • Increasing the understanding of the ethical challenges of effective data-mining  of biobanks and big biomedical data.
  • Provide researchers and other stakeholders assistance with design of optimally efficient and ethical studies and how to obtain permissions for them.
